6 Major Tips to get Efficient Data Collection

This summer my travel adventures took me to new countries where I got to experience unique cultures, people and their life across South East of Asia. They also lead me to one of my most unfortunate experiences. I injured my knee and needed an immediate surgery. At first I was taken aback as I realised that finding the right treatment for myself could be challenging given that I was in a country whose language I didn't speak far from home. And when your health is at stake, it's scary … To find a better rescue I resorted to seek answers through analytics and feedbacks.

But something saved my knee: hospital feedbacks. I searched on the internet the reputations of different institutions around me, and feedbacks never lie. It can show a lot of information, like online reviews of hospitals, rating and reviews about doctors and their specialisation, or patient feedback about hospitals, available treatments and facilities ... who makes you choose the right place.

A lot of hospitals use surveys to track in general, staff rating. Providing quality care is easier when everyone in the organization is engaged. It’s making sure doctors, nurses, and staffs have the training and tools they need to do their jobs. You can also get feedback on internal procedures and identify potential liability issues. And in particular, that gives the performance of the doctor for the hospital.

The wait time is really important too in a hospital. Imagine that you got an emergency, and the service took a lot of time to react … It will be not good for the hospital’s reputation.

But what was the most interesting for me: the patient feedbacks and satisfaction! It can show you the amenities, the cleanliness, the quality of the service, … everything important for a patient and his family.

Patient experience surveys can be more than just a measure of satisfaction.

Patient experience surveys ask service users specific factual questions about what happened to them during their recent healthcare experience.

For example, ‘reporting’ style questions such as: Did a member of staff tell you about medication side effects to watch for when you went home? provide useful information because they highlight precisely where the problems are, and what needs to be done to improve particular elements of patient care.

Traditional ‘satisfaction’ or ‘rating’ style questions, such as: Overall, how would you rate the care you received? are considered less useful because they do not provide a clear indication of what needs to be done to improve care.

For instance, knowing that 15% of patients rate the service as ‘fair’ or ‘poor’ gives few clues about where to start to make the service better. Having more precise information about what went wrong, such as 23% of patients not being given an understandable explanation of their test results, is much more helpful when setting priorities for improvement.

Brew Survey is an excellent tool to collect all this information both internally (nurses, doctors …) and externally (patients) and improve the quality of the hospital and then increase its reputation.

This app is designed to make its user's life easier by creating an unlimited number of questionnaires. You can ask all the questions that you need to know your patient or you can get staff rating. Gathering, analyzing, and sharing responses is not always easy, it requires a lot of time, and it is often a source of discouragement even before creating your survey. With Brew Survey it's so easy! An analysis of your survey is available: detailed insights include a total number of unique respondents, average time of complete the survey, completion ratio, drop-off from surveys, etc.. You will also be able to easily export these results into an excel file from the dashboard itself.

As all the data is already digitized, so it is very easy to publish them on the website of the hospital, or the social networks, and thus help people who have been wounded like me to choose the right place.
